DOT threatens to revoke North Carolina’s CDL authority
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy delivered an ultimatum to North Carolina after a federal audit found that more than half of the commercial driver’s licenses the state issued to foreign drivers were granted illegally. Duffy warned that if North Carolina does not correct these issues, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration may withhold about $50 million in federal transportation funding and could ultimately decertify the state’s CDL program, preventing it from issuing or renewing CDL credentials.

Transportation capacity index hits 4-year low in December
In December, transportation capacity dropped sharply, with the Logistics Managers’ Index (LMI) for capacity falling to 36.9, its lowest level since October 2021 and marking a significant contraction in available transportation capacity. At the same time, freight rates continued to climb, suggesting a tight market where demand for shipping space outpaced available capacity.
